Work Experience
How to Undertake Work Experience
Work experience gives students a valuable opportunity to explore future career pathways and gain real-world insight into the workplace.
Step 1: Choose a Suitable Placement
- Think about your career interests and goals.
- Talk to your teachers, career advisor, or family for ideas.
- Research local businesses or organisations that align with your interests.
Step 2: Organise the Placement
- Contact the business to ask if they offer work experience opportunities.
- Discuss possible dates and tasks you might be involved in.
- Make sure the placement fits within school-approved timeframes.
Step 3: Complete Required Paperwork
- Print, complete, and sign the Workplace Learning Agreement Form if you are undertaking or planning to undertake any work experience.
- Ensure all sections are completed and signed by:
- You (the student)
- Your parent or guardian
- The employer
- Your school
This formal agreement verifies the placement and ensures all parties understand their responsibilities. This form needs to be submitted to the student hub at least one week before the commencement of your placement.
Step 4: Prepare for Your Placement
- Confirm your start and finish times, dress code, and any materials you need to bring.
- Be punctual, polite, and ready to learn.
- Ask questions and take notes to make the most of the experience.
Step 5: Reflect and Report
- After your placement, reflect on what you learned.
- Complete any school-based reflection or reporting tasks.
- Use your experience as evidence for future applications or VET enrolment.
