Mount Barker High School offers a dynamic and inspiring learning environment, where tradition meets innovation. Nestled in picturesque grounds featuring two spacious ovals and inviting lawn areas, our campus provides students with a welcoming space to learn, play, and grow.

Classrooms

Our classrooms are designed to foster curiosity and collaboration. Each room is equipped with digital screens and full wireless internet access, creating a connected and engaging learning environment.

Agriculture farm

Spanning six hectares, our agriculture facility features livestock paddocks and chicken hutches, along with plant nurseries and vegetable plots. It also includes a shearing shed, irrigation systems, and storage facilities. This expansive space provides opportunities for hands-on learning in agricultural and horticultural studies, continuing a proud tradition of excellence.

Science laboratories

We offer four purpose-built science laboratories, each dedicated to a specific discipline: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and General Science. These specialised spaces are equipped with subject-specific resources that help students immerse themselves in scientific discovery.

The Howlett Resource Centre

The Howlett Resource Centre offers a comprehensive collection of novels and non-fiction resources, with new materials added regularly. Our collection caters to a wide range of literacy levels and interests.

During lessons, this space is primarily used by year 11 students for their scheduled study periods. In addition, all students can access a variety of learning resources, including textbooks, class-set novels, cameras, graphics calculators, and laptops.

The centre is open daily from 8:30am to 3:30pm for borrowing, printing, or photocopying. During recess and lunch, the space transforms into a lively hub for card and board games, creative crafts, and other activities. Throughout the year, a range of special interest programs operate, depending on staff availability. Once a week, the area is transformed into a quiet, safe space for diverse students.

Visual Arts Studio

Our vibrant Visual Arts Studio features four distinct teaching areas that support a wide range of creative expression. It includes a dedicated ceramics area, a multimedia suite equipped with Apple Macs, graphics tablets, and A1+ printers, and general art rooms for both traditional and contemporary media.

Specialist ICT facilities

We provide several dual-platform computer rooms (Apple and Windows), all with high-speed wireless access. Our Technology Centre features cutting-edge tools for CO₂ laser cutting and 3D printing, preparing students for the digital future.

Electrotechnology

This industry-standard facility provides a range of advanced resources to support both practical and theoretical learning. It features a high-tech computer room equipped with Unitrain learning modules, providing students with interactive and modern training tools. A fully equipped workshop enables hands-on construction of circuits and devices, giving learners the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical setting.

Furniture Construction

Our cabinet-making facility mirrors a professional workshop and is equipped with industrial-grade saws, sanders, routers, and other essential tools. It provides equipment to develop real-world skills in furniture design and construction, giving students hands-on experience in a practical setting.

Design and Technology

This light-filled, open-plan workshop provides an ideal environment for practical learning in woodwork, metal machining, and welding. It also includes a specialist automotive workshop equipped with a vehicle hoist, tyre-changing equipment, and engine models, providing students with hands-on experience in real-world automotive practices.

Home Economics

Our Home Economics area features two well-equipped kitchen spaces designed for practical cooking lessons. It also includes a dedicated textiles room fitted with sewing machines, overlockers, and an embroidery machine to support creative fabric work. There is a general-purpose classroom for theory and design, providing students with a space to plan and develop their projects.

Accessibility

Mount Barker High School is committed to inclusive education. Despite the age and multi-level nature of some buildings, we ensure full access for all students, staff, and visitors with restricted mobility. Ramps and a lift provide access to all teaching areas.
