Content

  • Research various forms of energy and the machines that are used to convert energy, including brushless electric motors
  • Design and assemble a brushless electric motor
  • Study the broad area of drone flight theory and associated legal and hazardous issues, both known and unknown
  • Design and assemble parts of a drone

Topics may include:

  • Fusion 360, Adobe Illustrator, Laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC machining
  • Photography/Photoshop (documenting practical work)
  • Manufacturing of small parts (hand tool and machinery use)
  • Understanding how drones achieve flight and various control methods
  • Understanding laws surrounding drone use, the future of drones, issues and possible uses
  • Learning to fly a drone and performing basic proficiency drills

Assessment

Tasks may include:

  • Unit Review: Brushless motors
  • Design Folio: Brushless motor design
  • Build a working model: Brushless motor
  • Essay
  • Practical Assessment: Fly a drone and perform basic proficiency drills
  • Drone Design Task: Ideation, sketches, prototyping, producing and evaluating
