Music Performance - Solo

Content

Students develop and extend their practical music-making skills through performing solo works for instrument(s) and/or voice. They apply their musical understanding, skills, technique, and accuracy in performing and refining music, developing stage presence and skills in engaging an audience. Students analyse their chosen repertoire, and critique strategies to develop their performances, and evaluate their performances as a soloist.  

Students apply their knowledge and understanding of the style, structure, and conventions appropriate to their chosen repertoire to craft musical performances, develop their musical imagination, and communicate ideas about, and appreciation of music.

Assessment

Performance  30%

• Students present three 6 to 8-minute solo performances, choosing one instrument (voice, acoustic or electronic) as appropriate to the focus of their learning.

Performance and Discussion  40%

• Students present a solo performance of 6 to 8 minutes. They also present an individual discussion of key musical elements of the repertoire, with a critique of strategies to improve and refine their performance - 800 words or 4-minute oral/multimodal.

Performance Portfolio  30%

• Students present a solo performance of 6 to 8 minutes. They also complete an evaluation in which they discuss, critique, and evaluate their entire learning journey through their course of study in this subject - 500 words or 3-minute oral/multimodal.

Additional Information

• Instrumental Music Program - All students are expected to commit to learning an instrument or take vocal lessons with either Education Department Instrumental Music teachers or private providers.     
• Students are required to participate in either the school vocal ensemble or stage band with three public performances per year, including Arts Night and Music Night events, plus additional school assembly performances.
• A range of workshops and excursions for concert attendance to underpin knowledge are offered throughout the year. This subject must be studied in conjunction with Year 12 Music Performance - Ensemble.
