Content

Music Experience is designed for students with emerging musical skills and provides opportunities to develop their musical understanding and skills in creating and responding to music.

Students learn to sing or play an instrument by taking weekly lessons with an instrumental or vocal teacher and learn to read and write music using conventional notation. They are required to apply these skills in solo and ensemble contexts in class and by participating in whole-school vocal and instrumental groups.

Assessment

Creative Works  65%

  • Composition  25%
Students compose an original musical work using digital recording software, mixing to a stereo product incorporating onboard effects for 1 to 3 minutes.
  • Ensemble Performance  40%
Students perform two musical works in an ensemble setting. They are individually part-tested on this repertoire and investigate aspects of technique on their instrument/voice - 6 to 8 minutes.
Musical Literacy  35%
  • Music Terminology  20%
Students demonstrate knowledge and understanding of music terminology and notation through analysing musical works. They reflect upon their learning in a Performance Evaluation document or multimodal presentation, then publish this to their own Digital Music Portfolio website - 400 words or 4-minute oral/multimodal.
  • Identifying & Troubleshooting Technical Issues  15%
Students collaborate to research, identify and resolve technical issues associated with electronic musical equipment and safely set up musical equipment for public performances. 500 words or 4-minute oral/multimodal.
