Content

Students develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the theory and practical applications associated with Chemical Science.  

Topics may include:

  • Monitoring the environment
  • Managing chemical processes
  • Organic and biological chemistry
  • Managing resources

Assessment

Investigation folio  30%

  • Science as a human endeavour report - 1500 words
  • Organic synthesis practical report - 1500 words
  • Deconstruction and design practical report - 1500 words

Skills and applications tasks  40%

  • Managing processes test - 90 minutes
  • Monitoring the environment test - 90 minutes
  • Organic chemistry test - 90 minutes
  • Managing resources test - 90 minutes

Examination  30%

  • Students undertake a 130-minute examination
  • Year 12 science inquiry skills and science understanding from all year 12 topics may be assessed
