Mount Barker High School’s War Memorial

Honouring their service, preserving their legacy

A new War Memorial has been unveiled on our school grounds, recognising three former students whose service and sacrifice reflect the courage of young Australians who served in times of conflict, as a lasting reminder of their service, sacrifice, and humanity.

The memorial honours:

  • Harold Mitchell – A WWI Gunner remembered for his bravery and for the legacy that continues through the Harold Mitchell Inclusive Education Centre.
  • Edward Keith Hender – A gifted sportsman and RAAF Flying Officer who served across the UK, Middle East, and India before losing his life in service.
  • Johnny Hunt – A RAAF airman who survived a remarkable 10‑day desert trek after being shot down, later killed in action over Tunisia in 1943.

Lest we forget.
