Understanding the importance of clear procedural writing

Our year 11 Essential English class had a fun start to their procedural texts unit. Students were given wildly different instructions to draw a koala, some clear, some confusing, some downright chaotic.

After comparing the results and discussing how language and structure shape understanding, everyone tried again with proper instructions and a visual guide. The improvement was huge, and the giggles were even louder.
