Content

This course builds on previous knowledge and skills and is based on the Australian Curriculum strands of Making and Responding.

'Making' focuses on practical skills and learning to apply these skills to various types of 2D and 3D art-making. This is achieved through a series of teacher-directed units with links to artists, art movements and cultures. Students learn to explore ideas, techniques and processes while creating artworks (practical). These are supported by developmental work (Folio).

'Responding' focuses on developing students’ ability to communicate about art. This is achieved through a variety of written forms which may include:

  • Planning and communicating their art-making in both written and visual forms (Folio)
  • Identification and analysis of how other artists use visual elements to communicate ideas
  • Explaining techniques and processes to communicate meaning in their artworks
  • Reflection on and evaluation of artworks
  • Development of knowledge and skills in relation to art vocabulary

Assessment

Tasks may include:

  • Drawing
  • Painting (various mediums)
  • Ceramics
  • Design/Graphic Design
  • Mixed Media
  • Homework Projects

The assessment tasks may consist of the following three components:

  • Development work (Folio)
  • Practical (Final Artwork)
  • Theory (connected to Final Artwork and Folio)
Theory aspects include artwork analysis, interpretation of artist practices and intentions, explanations of processes utilised, reflections and/or evaluations of own or others’ art practice.
